The Science Behind our Training Camp:  Traditional board and train programs are ineffective.  The thought of leaving your dog in a kennel for 14 to 30 days to be trained might sound like a wonderful idea… you know, send them to boarding school and they will come back programmed to do what you want, right?  Nope - - dogs aren’t computers.  Typically, traditional board and train programs don’t work.  The dog learns to work for the in-kennel trainer, but not for you.  The dog learns behavior cues on the kennel property, but not in your own front yard.  You see, dogs are environmentally contextual and what they learn in one environment, often does not translate to another environment.   

Example:  Megan teaches Olive to spin in her living room.  With excitement about Olive’s new trick, Megan takes Olive on a walk to the neighbor’s house and stops at the neighbor’s front yard to show off.  Several friends and neighbors stand-by to watch this lovely trick… and Olive just won’t do it… Megan shrugs & doesn’t understand why Olive won’t do it.  Upon returning home, Megan asks Olive for a spin, and sure enough, Olive spins and waits for her treat.  Frustrating… no… Olive has not yet learned to generalize her knowledge.  She just needs to be trained the same behavior in a new environment followed up with practice to help her generalize her new skill.

Our training camp offers a chance for pro-active owners to take part in their dog’s education.  We offer training camp Monday-Friday.  Each Friday, your dog is sent home with a private lesson and homework so that you can practice your dog’s new skills in your own environment.  Then, if you have signed up for consecutive weeks, your dog will return the following Monday through Friday to build and strengthen those skills and learn additional ones.

You may choose one week, two weeks… up to a four week program!! 
Each Monday through Friday week includes:

• Three individual training sessions per day + one individualized play session.
• A go-home bath on Friday so you can have your dog back not only smarter, but cleaner!!
• A follow-up private lesson with your dog’s trainer to coach you on how to apply the verbal and/or visual cues and answer any questions you may have.
• Week one includes an initial 20-30 minute training consultation + a martingale, easy-walk harness or gentle leader depending on dog’s needs.
• Weeks two, three and four include a take-home DVD with footage of your dog performing trained behaviors – a great way to review what to practice and how to practice the training with your dog.

Each week is designed to build on each other.  Weeks 1-4 must be scheduled consecutively with no more than a week between each camp.
